Prepare for a career in business

You'll develop the skills and knowledge to work in the finance industry. This program provides you with a solid business education and a foundation in either financial planning or corporate finance, covering areas such as business finance; investment analysis; money, banking, and financial institutions; client relationships and marketing; professional ethics; economics; personal taxations, and accounting.

After graduation

With a Diploma in Business Administration – Finance Option, you areprepared for employmentwith banks, finance departments of larger corporations and government; credit unions, trust companies, investment dealers, mortgage brokerage firms, insurance companies, lending and leasing institutions and financial planning firms.

You will also graduate with credit towards theBachelor of Business Administrationprograms at ߴý. You may obtain advanced standing and/or recognition in a number ofprofessional programs or be able transfer to a university.

For further information, consult with anAcademic Advisor. There are also 2-year blocktransfer creditto degree programs at other institutions including Royal Roads University and the University of Lethbridge. Transfer credit to other post-secondary institutions on a course-by-course basis is available.

What to expect

Theprogram consists of 20courseswhich can be completed in approximately twoyears if taken on a full-time basis. Evening and daytime classes are held predominantly at the Interurban campus and the program can be taken on a part-time basis.

Year 1

In the first year, you’ll work through introductory-level courses in accounting, finance, economics, and marketing. Exit the program now with a Certificate in Business Administration or continue onto the year 2.

Year 2

In your second year, you'll work through money and banking, corporate finance, and investment courses. Exit the program now with a Diploma in Business Administration-Finance Option.

Co-operative Education option

Apply your classroom skills in the workplace and bring your workplace skills back to the classroom! When you engage in co-operative education, you get an early start on preparing for your career after graduation! You will have the opportunity to alternate between full-time studies and full-time paid work where you can bring your applied learning classroom to life.

To participate in Co-operative Education, prior to your first work term you will need to successfully complete

  • Eight (8) first year courses, with a cumulativeof 3.0 (C+), and
  • the Career Development-Workplace Preparation Skills (CDEV-WPS) course

Program participation requirements

  • Many first year business courses require math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11,MATH 073,MATH 077, MATH 137,or “C+” inMATH 072,MATH 075, or MATH 135).Students may enter this program without math but please note, students must complete one of the math courses as listed above or successfully complete ߴý’s math assessment in or before their first semester of study.
